Winter Market 2013 at the Nelson Mandela School Berlin
UPAA Germany, together with the The Loved Flock community
participated in Winter Market of the Nelson Mandela School (NMS) in
Berlin last December 14, 2013. Cooked Filipino foods donated by members of the two groups were
sold in the Winter Market for the benefit of the typhoon Haiyan victims.
All proceeds will be given to the NGO, HAGIBBAT,
through UPAA Germany. Other student groups of NMS participated in the
Winter Market to also help the Philippines. For detailed photo

Ambassador Natividad at the Nelson Mandela School Berlin
Philippine Ambassador to Germany and UPAA Germany Honorary Member, Maria Cleofe Natividad inspired the audience and young performers of the Nelson Mandela School (NMS) in Berlin with her meaningful speech during the school's annual Winter Concert. Part of this years' ticket sales will be donated to the victims of typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. UPAA Germany member and NMS teacher, Lynda (Lea) Millares introduced Ambassador Natividad. All donations collected by the NMS will be given to the NGO, Hagibbat, through UPAA Germany.

UPAA President and Alumni Regent, Ponciano Rivera Jr., appealed for urgent donations in cash or in kind for some 650 displaced and
deprived students from Super Typhoon Yolanda-devastated areas. As a brief
overview, there are 171 UPD students from Tacloban City and the Samar-Leyte
provinces, and 192 UPV Tacloban cross-registrants in UP Diliman. Around 280
more are waiting to get on C-130 planes and RORO vessels to reach Metro Manila.

National Book Award for Prof. Dr. Marlies Salazar
UP alumna and UPAA Germany member, Prof. Dr. Marlies Salazar got the National Book Award for Best Book in the Social Sciences on November 16, 2013. Her book is the first comprehensive history of European studies on Philippine languages. It was launched on January 11, 2013. The award winning book was presented to Ambassador Maria Cleofe Natividad at the Philippine Embassy in Berlin on December 5, 2013. See the Calendar of Events 2013 for more info...

"FORe UP 2013"
The UP Alumni Association (UPAA) , in cooperation with the UP Barkada, invited UPAA Germany to participate in “FORe UP 2013”, a grand fund-raising campaign intended to benefit as many organizations in UP. Driven by the theme “Make it better FORe UP”, this campaign will culminate in the UP Open Golf Tournament to be held on November 8, 2013 at the Valley Golf and Country Club. For more info...

"KONTRA-GAPI EUROPE TOUR 2013"
The UP Kontra-Gapi (Kontemporaryong Gamelan Pilipino) started its 2013 European tour in Paris on May 3. Kontra-Gapi is the resident Ethnic Music and Dance Ensemble of the College of Arts and Letters in UP Diliman, Philippines. The group led by Prof. Edru Abraham visited Berlin on June 5 to 11, 2013 and performed on different occasions for the Philippine Embassy and also for the Filipino and international community. UP developed a website (http://halalan.up.edu.ph) designed to help Filipino voters make a well-informed choice among the contending candidates of the 2013 election. It serves as a platform for UP to:
(1) Facilitate voters' education by making election-related data accessible to the faculty, staff, students, alumni and the general public;
(2) Disseminate relevant information about the candidates, plus election-related research findings and analyses by UP-based experts in a manner that is meaningful and comprehensible to various audiences; and
(3) Ensure that election-related initiatives, such as the fact check project, reach the widest audience possible through the use of both traditional and new media.
