Filipino Community Welcomes President Pnoy
UP alumni joined the Filipino community from all over Germany to welcome President Benigno S. Aquino III on September 19, 2014 (5:30pm) at the Maritim Hotel, Stauffenbergstrasse 26, 10785 Berlin-Tiergarten, Germany.

Tour of the Border
UP alumni and friends made a spontaneous tour of the previous border between West Berlin and East Germany on July 27, 2014. They also visited a place in Glienicke/Nordbahn where a tunnel was dug inside a house as a escape route to West Berlin by families who successfully flee East Germany in 1963. The tour also included a visit of a nearby lake in the area.

First General Assembly in 2014
UPAA Germany e.V. held its first General Assembly for 2014 at Kaiser-Friedrichstr.
33 • 10627 Berlin on July 26, 2014. The meeting was hosted by Krisanta and Christoph Mönnich. The General Assembly agreed in the meeting to make the Scholarship Fund project be a regular project with 50% budget allocation from the yearly membership fees.

Lecture Series: The Bamboo Organ of Las Piñas
A presentation by Dr. Helen Samson-Lauterwald held on June 27, 2014 at the Bulwagang Rizal, 6th Floor, Philippine Embassy, Uhlandstr. 97, 10715 BERLIN (Click here for details.) The event was organized by the UPAA Germany in cooperation with the Philippine Embassy Berlin. After the presentation, UPAA Germany hosted a dinner for the speaker and guests. Turn-over of Orientation Booklets for Filipinos in Germany
Printed copies of the "Orientation Booklet for Filipinos in Germany" have been turned-over by UPAA Germany to Ambassador Maria Cleofe Natividad, Philippine Ambassador to Germany. The turn-over ceremony was done during the advanced commemoration of the 116th anniversary of the proclamation of the Philippine independence at the Philippine Embassy in Berlin on June 11, 2014. UPAA Germany was represented by the two authors of the booklet (Dr. Jingky Lozano-Kühne and Ms. Maria Renee Juan Wolff). The booklet has been launched online on May 26, 2014. Several hundred copies of the booklet have been printed with the help of donors who supported the project. For more information and free download of the booklet, please follow this link.

UPLB Choral Ensemble sang in Berlin
The University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) Choral Ensemble presented sacred, folk and contemporary Filipino music at St. Marien, Behnitz 9, D-13597 Berlin Spandau on May 10, 2014. The UPLB Choral Ensemble performed in Berlin for the benefit of UP scholars from the typhoon Haiyan-affected areas and in commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the Philippine-German diplomatic relations. The benefit concert was organized by the University of the Philippines Alumni Association (UPAA) Germany e.V. in cooperation with the Filipino community and Sir Helmut Kißner (Knights of Rizal). The choral also performed for the Philippine Embassy's launching of the commemorative stamp to celebrate the 60 years of Philippine-German relations

Lecture Series: Perspective on Philippine Languages: Five Centuries of European Scholarship
Dr. Marlies Salazar, Philippine National Book Awardee 2013, gave a presentation at the Philippine Embassy in Berlin about her book entitled "Perspective on Philippine Languages: Five Centuries of European Scholarship". The event was organized by the UPAA Germany and the Berlin International Women's Club (BIWC), in cooperation with the Philippine Embassy Berlin. Lecture Series: Research-oriented collaboration between German and Philippine scientists and engineers
Dr. Eduardo Mendoza, a Balik Scientist Awardee, gave a presentation on February 28, 2014 at the Philippine Embassy on Philippine-German scientific collaborations. The presentation was participated by a mixed audience of students and professionals from different walks of life. In addition to Filipinos and Germans, there were also British and Japanese participants who enthusiastically participated in this event held at the Philippine Embassy Berlin. The presentation was followed immediately by the Fellowship Evening with Ambassador Maria Cleofe Natividad, who generously provided the sumptuous Filipino buffet dinner. "Photos-for-a-Cause"
UPAA Germany e.V. conducted a Photos-for-a-Cause project. By simply donating a photo or by being a project sponsor, one is able to help in the association's educational and scholarship fund raising campaign. Due to the recent destruction caused by typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda) in the Philippines, donations to Photos-for-a-Cause this year were diverted to help the victims of the disaster. Donations of project sponsors were forwarded to organizations working directly with the typhoon victims in the Philippines. Further information about the project can be found on this link.

UPAA Germany at Institut Francais
Dr. Marlies Salazar, UPAA Germany member, gave a talk about the Philippine language at the Institut Francais on February 12, 2014. A mini food-sale was conducted by other members after the talk for projects helping the typhoon Hiayan victims.
